Retired, Toa Payoh

"My occupational pension had been quietly reduced without any explanation I could understand. I came in not knowing quite what to expect. The firm listened carefully, then explained my position in language I could actually follow. The written note they sent afterwards was something I could share with my children."

"I had received a letter from my former employer's pension scheme that I found deeply concerning. The firm reviewed it and told me plainly that the reduction appeared to have been applied incorrectly. They then handled the correspondence with the administrator and the matter was resolved. I appreciated that they never made this feel more dramatic than it needed to be."

"My wife and I attended the Retirement Documentation service together. We came with a will drafted some years ago, a lasting power of attorney that we weren't sure was still adequate, and CPF nominations we had never reviewed properly. The firm went through everything across two sittings, gave us time to discuss between, and delivered a complete folder at the end. It was a relief to have it all in one place."

Former teacher, Bedok

"I appreciated that the firm did not tell me what I wanted to hear. After reviewing my situation, they were clear that formal action was unlikely to produce a different outcome and explained why. That honesty allowed me to stop spending energy on the matter and focus on other things."

"The firm handled a dispute with my late father's former employer's pension scheme on my behalf as administrator of his estate. The process was new to me and the firm was patient in explaining each step. The matter took a few months, which they had indicated at the outset, and was resolved to my satisfaction."

"We had been meaning to update our wills and sort out our CPF nominations for some time but kept finding reasons to delay. The firm made the process straightforward. The two-sitting format gave us space to go away and think after the first meeting. We came back with questions and left the second sitting with everything in order."

Case Studies

Three client journeys

Case Study 01 — Pension Defence

The Situation

A retired civil servant in her late sixties discovered that her occupational pension had been reduced by approximately 18% without any letter of explanation she could locate. She had raised the matter informally with her former employer but received no satisfactory response.

What the Firm Did

After an initial sitting to understand the position, the firm obtained a copy of the pension deed and the scheme administrator's records. A formal letter was sent requesting a full account of the basis for the reduction. The scheme's response was reviewed and found to be internally inconsistent.

The Outcome

Following further correspondence over approximately ten weeks, the scheme administrator acknowledged an administrative error and restored the full pension amount, with arrears paid. The matter was resolved without formal proceedings.

Duration: approximately 10 weeks

Case Study 02 — Retirement Documentation

The Situation

A couple in their early seventies had wills made twenty years earlier that did not reflect their current family situation. Their CPF nominations had not been updated since the accounts were first opened. They had no lasting power of attorney in place.

What the Firm Did

The first sitting was used to understand the family situation and the couple's intentions. New wills were drafted and reviewed at the second sitting. Lasting powers of attorney were prepared for both husband and wife. CPF and pension beneficiary nominations were reviewed and updated documents prepared.

The Outcome

A complete folder of retirement documentation was delivered at the close of the second sitting. The couple left with new wills, executed LPAs, and up-to-date beneficiary nominations — all reviewed together for consistency for the first time.

Duration: two sittings over three weeks

Case Study 03 — Position Sitting

The Situation

A man in his mid-sixties had received a letter from a former employer's pension scheme suggesting that a portion of his pension might have been paid in error and requesting repayment. He was unsure whether this demand was legitimate and was understandably concerned.

What the Firm Did

At the initial sitting, the firm reviewed the letter and the client's pension documents. The firm assessed the legal basis for the repayment demand, considered the applicable limitation periods, and formed a view on the strength of the scheme's position.

The Outcome

The firm advised that the claim was unlikely to withstand legal scrutiny given the circumstances and the time that had passed. A written response was prepared at the client's instruction. No further demand was received. The client had attended a single sitting and left with a clear path forward.

Duration: single sitting plus correspondence
